How to plan & practice to
escape a fire? |

=Have at least two ways to get outside from each room in your home, specially bedrooms.
=Develop a fire escape plan with the members of your household and practice at least four times in a year.
= Make sure that safety bars on windows can be opened from inside your home.
= Get out right away as fast as possible and don’t stop for anything.
= Stay outside until you are sure it is safe to go back.
= In outside, have a pre-arranged refuge /meeting place .So you’ll be sure that
every is out of the home.
= Never use an elevator/lift. It might take you right to the fire.
= Feel closed doors. If hot, use another exit. |

| 02. How to deal with smoke? |
| |
=If you encounter smoke, use an alternate escape route.
=If you must exit through smoke, keep low where air is cleanest (1-2 feet above the floor)
and crawl on your hands and knees to safety. Cover your mouth and take short breaths. |

| 03. How can I be a careful cook? |
| |
=Never leave cooking unattended.
=Keeping cooking area clear of items that will catch fire.
=Never leave foil or metal in a microwave.
=Keep pot and handles turned in word so they won’t be knocked over.
=Wear short or tight fitting sleeves to cook.
=Keep heaters/ovens at least three feet from anything that can burn.
=Keep children and pets away.
=Clear the area around the hearth of debris, flammables and decorative materials
=Always turn heaters/ovens/stoves off when leaving kitchen. |

| 04. How can we protect Electric Fire? |
| |
=By replacing cracked or frayed electrical cords.
=If an appliance smoke or smells hot , unplug it right away and have it repaired.
=Don’t overload extension cords or run them under the rug.
=Don’t temper with fuse boxes or fuses or the wrong size. |

| 05. What should I do if my cloths catch fire? |
| |
=STOP where you are. Never run.
=DROP to the ground. Cover your face with your hands to protect face and lung.
=ROLL over and over to smother the flames. |

| 06. How can we prevent burn injury? |
| |
=Stay near by at all times when cooking
=Enforce a “kid-free zone” of 3 feet around your stove when cooking.
=Turn pot handles inward.
=Don’t leave spoons or other utensils in pots while cooking.
=Turn burners or ovens off when they are not in use.
=Keep plenty of dry pot holders near your cooking area.
=Remove the lids from pots of cooking liquids carefully to prevent steam
burn. Remember steam is hotter than boiling water.
=If a pan of food catches fire, carefully slide a lid over the pan and turn off the burner. |

| 07. What is the first aid for Burns? |
| |
To administer the first aid of burn, we have to know the three degree of burn classified by the amount of damage done to the skin and other body tissue.
First-degree burns> symptoms are minor injury with redden skin, tender and sore.
Second-degree burns> symptoms are serious injury with blister skin very painful.
Third-degree burns> symptoms are sever injury with white, brown, or charred tissue; often surrounded by blistered areas; little or no pain at first.
First aid of burns>
=Cool the burn (for first and second degree burns): Preferably with cool running water
for 10-15 minutes. Third degree burns required immediate medical attention.
=Remove burned clothing: Lay the victim flat on his or her back. Remove jewelry or
tight fitting clothing from around burned areas before swelling begins and , if , possible,
elevate the injured areas .
=Cover the burn: After a first or second-degree burn has been cooled, apply a clean, dry
dressing to the burned area.
=Dont apply butter or any other grease(including medicated ointment) on a burn.
=Dont break blisters , this could allow germs to enter the wound.
=Treat for shock: To reduce the risk of shock, Keep the victims body temperature
normal. Cover unburned area with a dry blanket. |

| 08. How can we confirm child safety? |
| |
=Keep matches and lighters out of children’s reach- preferably in a locked cabinet. Use only child resistant lighters.
=Do not allow children to play near stove/oven/heater.
=Do not leave hot irons unattended.
=Do not leave barbecue grills unattended.
=Teach your children that hot household objects can burn them.
=Test hot/steamed bath water by carefully before use. |

| 09. To prevent fire , how can we keep an eye on smokers? |
| |
=Never leave cigarette unattended.
=Don’t let anyone smoke in bed.
=Put water on butts before discarding.
=Before bed or living home check under and around sofa cushions for smoldering
cigarettes. |
